This exhibition explores the notion of caring for ourselves whilst caring for others.
Through selected and created objects I explore the role objects take in our relationship with ourselves and how they can help us reconnect.
In 2018 my son, aged 3, was diagnosed with Leukaemia. His treatment lasted three and a half years and sadly, after 6 months, he relapsed in 2022 resulting in another two years treatment. With treatment being brutal and lasting so many years (and after effects transcending past treatment ‘end’ dates) giving my son the care he needed had a huge impact on my own need for comfort and nourishment. This work evokes the ebb and flow of sensations and body and mind connection. With a sensory experience with materials and metaphor. I explore the role our hands take in how we relate to objects by sense of touch. How does it feel? What do I notice?. How can this be expressed though rhythmic repetition with materials? rolling, pushing and smoothing and how this approach supports the exploration of the unknown.
